Finding and recruiting technicians has been a struggle for many members, but not for all. For the past eight years Dowling Corporation has partnered with a local community college to help find qualified people.

“We have been involved in their career fair and hired at least one of the graduates each year for the last eight years,” said Mike Houghton (Dowling Corporation). “Five years ago we became part of their advisory board and that has been a game changer for us.”

Mike said that being part of the advisory board provides them with the opportunity to get an early start recruiting students who show the highest potential. He said it also allows them to influence the curriculum and continue to raise the bar. “Many of the graduates we have hired stay in touch with their instructors providing them feedback on areas that would be beneficial to place more focus on,” said Mike.

Dowling’s involvement and investment in the program has gained them recognition and stature in their environment. “It has positioned us among graduates as a desirable place to work,” said Mike.
