What you do today can improve all of your tomorrows, and The Unified Group members did just that at our Construction Forum. Members gathered in Salt Lake City, Utah from April 17th-19th to discuss The Lifecycle of a Project in the Ever-Changing Construction Industry.

The event opened up with a wonderful reception, where all gathered Sunday night for casual conversation. Bright and early Monday, Jack Fitzgerald (AirComfort) kicked off the event with a strong discussion on Project Acquisitions. How is your formal bid process? When do you turn away work? Is there a best way for estimating? All these topics were discussed in depths and shared with other members. What the members all concluded was relationships are extremely important at this phase of a project; both with your team and your customer. Recognizing that the Sales and Business Development team's needs are as important to the project as engineers, superintendents, and project managers will lead to a stronger chance of closing a deal.

Justin Gary (MaxAir) gave a robust presentation discussing the in’s and out’s of the Pre-Construction Phase. With Justin’s assistance, the group revealed the way the use programs such as Google Drive and DropBox to fully utilize their tablets in the field. Many members were also able to work through some of the tougher categories such as Change Orders in order to do what is best for your company and your customer.

Other topics discussed at this event were: Construction phase, pre-fabrication, onsite coordination, productivity, software and resources, and close-outs.

The highest member rated part of the tour was when Ryan Jorgensen (MSS) opened his office and warehouse to the members. Ryan, along with team members, Quinton Selin, Brian Bingham, Mike Baldassari and Kevin Cowley lead a superb tour truly creating a transparent environment for sharing best practices. Thank you MSS for opening your doors!

Thank you to our task force for planning a great session: Ryan Jorgensen from MSS, Justin Gary from MaxAir and Jack Fitzgerald from AirComfort
