At the 2024 Service Management Forum, Andy Gura of Blauch Brothers shared that as part of their interview process, they started having potential hires ride along for a couple hours with a seasoned tech before bringing them on to their team.  This gave their technician a chance to get to know the person, test some of their knowledge and see if they would be a fit for Blauch’s culture.  This piqued an interest from Desiree Cespedes of Standard Plumbing and Heating, who asked if there was a waiver created prior to the ride along taking place.  There was not.  Desiree went back and created a waiver and shared it with the group to make sure that all are covered if they chose to implement ride alongs as part of their interview process.  Hutch Henry of EES Facility Servies, armed with Andy’s idea and the waiver form from Desiree, implemented tech ride alongs as part of their interview process.  Hutch has hired a couple of technicians after this and felt that adding this step was a great way to learn more about a potential employee and also gave their technicians an opportunity to get to know the person better and gauge competency and culture fit within their organization.  What a great share and teamwork shown from a best idea.  Now those that want to implement this step into their interview process can do so and have a pre-written waiver of liability.  Together we make the difference!
