Emerging Leaders Forum | Four Success Stories
Last month we reached out to find out how the Emerging Leaders Forum attendees were doing and if they had accomplished the takeaway they wrote down at the end of last year's session We asked if they were in “treble” or if they were already playing jazz. Check out these four success stories!
Dave Sloan (Ruthrauff Service): I took some time to really focus on my team members and analyze what type of people they are. From the project sales person to the dispatcher, I realized they all function differently. I've been learning to adapt how I behave depending on who it is I'm dealing with and have seen great results. I'm not going to say I'm 100% to where I need to be, but there is clearly more of a "team" atmosphere around the office.
Tom Dillett (Dillett Mechanical): We had Scott Olson do the personality profiles on the five owners. Then we sat down and discussed how we all operate and found out we had a few big surprises! Some of us made assumptions about others and we were able to go forward with a better understanding on how to communicate with each other. Also how to tailor our tasks toward the individuals who are best suited to perform them. We will do the office staff next, then maybe all of our techs. The Five Dysfunction book is being passed around and so far 2 of the 5 have read it and we plan to meet to discuss implementation further.
John Walsh (Cox Engineering): After leaving The Unified Group Leadership Conference last year I got back to the office and sat down with John Canavan and Jon Desmond and expressed how valuable the event was in Chicago. After those conversations, we ended up signing a contract with the folks at Salesforce. By enabling this CRM system, it would be a team effort to make this happen as a company. I offered my services to both John and Jon to act as the primary lead on this project. They gave me the green light and as of today we are in the middle of this project. As a leader, I try to facilitate the "action lists" and take on most of the group to make the project less time consuming on everyone else's day. So far, we are doing very well and working together a team to accomplish our goals. We are having weekly meetings that I am running as lead and the team has been heavily involved thus far. I feel I have learned a couple aspects from my team at The Unified Group event that I have been enabling with this project. Communication has been key and I always felt that if you kept the lines of communication open at all times (good or bad messages) it will always benefit you in the end. Thanks to all for a great experience.
Tammy Lippert (Brady Services): First of all, I am not sure I am playing jazz at an understandable level yet, but I am not in treble either :). Brady has undergone much change this year, but let me tell you with my contacts made from Emerging Leaders Session I have had a great sounding board. We did get the Five Dysfunctions of a Team book into the Emerging Leaders Group here at Brady. We are still struggling to set up a meeting schedule, but with class #2 having just graduated...we will succeed. I do think we have implemented many great new ideas and concepts this past year that are moving us from our plateau to a higher level. Exciting position to be in. Thank you for making me stop and reflect; we have come a long way. Again, I will emphasize though, it was not just me. Thank you for this opportunity and thank you for putting that session together. I, for one, know I will reap benefits from it for many years to come.
