Remember from the Leadership Forum and the book, First, Break All the Rules, measuring the strength of your organization can be done with 12 questions sorted into four different camps (Base Camp, Camp One, Camp Two, and Camp Three). The camps help us remember that the order of the questions is very important. We have to build a strong foundation if we're going to be building a strong organization. That means we can't jump to the top of the mountain; we have to put in the work at the bottom, so we can eventually get to the summit.
Base Camp Questions:
1. Do I know what is expected of me at work?
2. Do I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right?
Even if you don’t have direct reports through your interactions and day-to-day activities you can still be contagious to people around you. Don't forget - leadership is influence and you have influence on the people on your team every day. Spend some time to think about the questions above that make up Base Camp. Then put on your team member's hat or your direct report's hat - do they know what's expected of them? Do they have the materials and equipment they need?
Comment below to tell us what changes you've made and what you've done since the Leadership Forum to get the answers to the questions above.
