Do you have what it takes to be a good leader? Attendees from this year’s Leadership Forum: Discovering the Keys to Leadership Success gathered in Chicago to answer that question! Over the course of three days attendees worked with their mentors and groups to explore if they have what it takes! Through sharing advice, stories and even struggles members helped open doors for each other.
The meeting kicked off with FMI Guest speaker, Randy Nemchin, who pushed members to dig down deep into communication, understanding, work-life balance and providing effective feedback. Nemchin facilitated a highly rated discussion on the Four P’s of understanding someone: Past, Pain, Passion and Potential, and dared those in attendance to use this method every single day. Chris Stokes (Air Controls, Billings, MT) stated that “communication is such a simple concept, yet so complex to execute that we all struggle with it in our business and personal lives. These forums are critical in helping us develop who we are and what we are trying to achieve.”
Randy also provided members with a Pro Scan test. This test aims to provide individuals with a better understanding of themselves. Jeff Schultheis (B&I Contractors, Fort Myers, FL) stated, “I think everyone in the work place would benefit by having a better understanding of themselves and others. I feel most people go through life not knowing who they are or why they behave the way they do.”
Perhaps the most highly praised segment was lead by Tyler Jeffrey who facilitated a discussion of “Drama in the Workplace.” The dialogue was centered on a book called ‘Stop Whiners, Complainers and Energy Drainers,’ which teaches its readers how to deal with 5 different types of complainers: Whiners, Complicators, Prima Donnas, Controllers, and the Toxics. “Tyler is awesome. His presentation skills are outstanding. I could do it all over again.” (Jon Murphy, VHV, Winooski, VT).
Others topics discussed: Delegation, impact of worldview, motivating and inspiring and generational gaps.
Thank you to our mentors and task force who helped plan the session: Jon Murphy (VHV), Tyler Jeffrey (Air Comfort), and Matt Blauch (Blauch Brothers). Together We Make The Difference.
