The Unified Group held its first Safety Director’s Forum; Safety is No Accident February 28th- March 3rd in Fort Worth, Texas.

Jim Lehrke (Safety Connections) kicked off day one presenting The Right Safety Culture – Creating the Want.  The group learned to make sure safety is first on every agenda; make it personal and get to know one another by treating people fairly and being respectful.  Everyone needs to do what they say they are going to do to be committed to create a great organizational culture.

Ken Trotter (A&G Piping) shared how they are working with OSHCON to create a safer work environment within their organization.  The group travelled to A&G Piping in the afternoon to tour their impressive facility and see how the suggestions made by OSHCON have been implemented in their shop.

Safety lawyer, Adele Abrams, joined the group on day two to discuss the impact of the new Silica Standard. Throughout the next day and a half, best practices were shared on managing your safety program, safety/loss control issues, safety metrics being tracked, distracted driving and how members provide training for their people.  Erica Peet (VHV Company) explained their successful return to work policy to the group.

Many challenges and best ideas were shared throughout the two and a half day meeting.    The best part of the meeting was exchanging ideas with those in the same position and addressing similar challenges together – Amy Flores, Midstate Energy

This was an amazing group of people who really care about making sure everyone gets home safe to their families.  They were happy to share, learn, grow and now have a network of others to help them.  Our group is so involved. It is because we are all experiencing the same issues every day. Great group!! Mark Gierszewski, Peterson Sheet Metal

Special thanks to our task force who interviewed speakers and created the agenda for this session; Ken Trotter (A&G Piping), Brian Scott (MSS), and Erica Peet (VHV Company). We are so proud of our “Safety Wolf Pack” and can’t wait until the next time they are all together!
