MSS Creates Storage Cabinets and Mobile Plan Tables
Clamshell gangboxes are extremely expensive, but needed greatly to store important items. MSS invented a creative replacement to buying these costly gangboxes. They collectively worked together to build six storage cabinets that averaged to be ½ of the cost of buying just one new clam shell Knack gangbox with castors. In creating their own storage cabinets, MSS was able to incorporate key components within them such as expanded metal shelves to ensure that they don’t become cluttered with miscellaneous loose hardware. The storage cabinets allow maximum visibility from all angles to see the contents within them and they include two locks to secure the contents inside when not in use. MSS also included fork pockets so that the storage cabinets could be moved easily from one place to another; in addition, they have heavy duty castors to withstand jobsite abuse. “The intention is not for tool storage but for storage of consumables and items that usually sit in ragged boxes or loose on pallets over the job,” says Quinton Selin, Construction Operations Manager, MSS. To be able to create more efficient storage cabinets at ½ the cost has definitely been a win-win for MSS.
MSS took it a step further and created highly effective mobile plan tables that can be brought to the job site allowing the foreman and lead men to be more present on the job site instead of in the trailers. These tables are a game changer because job trailers are now being required to be further away from the job site. The tables are equipped with a power strip within the cabinet that allows charging of batteries, tablets, computers, etc. There is a fluorescent light mounted behind the top square tube. The table is tilted and designed to fit a full size set of drawings that can be completely laid out. These mobile plan tables also include tubes within the locking cabinets which allow excessive prints to be rolled up and stored preserving them from the effects of the weather.
Additional benefits of the mobile plan tables include a thin piece of sheet metal located on top of the table that allows you to stick items to it with magnets. The tables have been constructed with durability in mind; they include fork pockets, expanded metal shelves as well as heavy duty castors like the storage cabinets. “Since we've made these they have become a highly desired tool on the jobs. As soon as the guys see them they want one on their job,” says Quinton Selin.
As one of many speakers during The Unified Group’s Construction Forum in Cape Coral, FL last month, Selin shared the company’s creations with colleagues and other industry leaders. Having efficient and effective storage cabinets and mobile plan tables has allowed MSS to become more productive, utilizing less time traveling to and from the trailers, and allowing more time to work on the tasks at hand.
